I bought this story, after reading a short story in the anthology "modern magic" to see how it continues, but the characters all changed so this was a completely new story! the background story line is fairly good but it hints faintly of something else wrong! which you do find out at the end of this prequel! but I would have liked a small blurb added in about "the male character" and what he did in the game! anything else I say will be a spoiler so will leave it at that! the adventure takes you into the gaming world as if you are there,it is very nicely done with minimal tricks and reads totally as a working step for fairyland to be able go to from here! that twist is what brings you in believing the story as a plausible rear happening! very good tale hardly put it down!!!
This story hits all the marks, a good plot, a flawed hero who realizes some of her mistakes, and an ending with a slight twist (nicely foreshadowed). The news she gets at the end was a bit rushed, though. I also thought the metaphors and modifiers were a tad overdone, especially in the beginning. They almost detracted from the times where the writer gives us some wonderful descriptive passages. Overall, it was an enjoyable read.
This was an extremely well-written, fast-moving short story that leads perfectly into the first book of the Feyland series. I'd already read book 1, and this prequel enhanced it for me. The descriptions are vivid and the Fey world is so interesting. Also just love the whole idea of a video game being a sort of portal to another world. My teen sons also love this series, so I think it has wide appeal
When you can't get enough of a tale, these short stories are just the thing! Anthea Sharp takes us to the creation of the ultimate gaming system and the game as well. Jennet is a very different girl from the one she becomes, and this story shares where she has been. I always enjoy prequels because they are very important in fully understanding the characters and give insight into things that are suggested at in the other books of the series. They also can determine whether or not you read on in a series. Once you read this book you will surely want to venture farther into the realm of Feyland.
I loved this prequel to the Feyland series, as it reminded me of those girl's adventure stories into fae borderlands that I read as a pre-teen, but with an upgrade for modern girls. Ms. Sharp's writing is crisp and moves the story along and her descriptions are such that I could clearly see and smell the rich colors and odors of the faerie realm. This first dip into Jen's adventures is a delicious intro to what promises to be a complex series. Looking forward to purchases the rest.
